Evolution

Concept and performance by Bjørn Venø.

"No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man."

Heraclitus

Plato's Cave, in short: Prisoners in a cave chained to a wall only seeing shadows, nobody wishes to leave because they are comfortable, one prisoner is dragged out against his will. When outside the cave the prisoner sees the world, and wishes to return and save his fellow prisoners, but when he returns he would no longer be used to the dark and appear to the prisoners as a stumbling fool.

I see the door as the threshold of change and growth, it is the river and it is the caves exit.  Keeping it closed, refusing to step through it or avoiding the challenge is not fulfilling ones potentiality as a human being.

Bjørn Venø believes art that explores and challenges is good for us, because it can help humanity evolve in a positive direction. Venø works with photography, video, performance art, writing, drawing and music to create such art. Ideas of failure, identity, gender and metaphysics are explored by using free association, intuition and attributes of the fool.
